Pakistan’s Dream Run in Adelaide:
Pakistan achieved a remarkable nine-wicket win against Australia in the second ODI, breaking a seven-year drought for wins on Australian soil. Led by Haris Rauf’s fiery spell and Saim Ayub’s blistering batting, Pakistan completed their chase with 23.3 overs to spare, tying the series 1-1 and setting up an exciting final match in Perth.

Match Highlights

  • Pakistan’s Bowling Dominance:
Haris Rauf led Pakistan’s bowling attack, claiming 5 for 29. Rauf’s stellar delivery to Marnus Labuschagne showcased his skill and helped restrict Australia to just 163. With Rauf’s contributions across two games, his impact on Australia’s lineup was undeniable, causing consistent disruptions and building pressure.
  • Ayub and Shafique Steal the Show:
Chasing a modest target, openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique took their time initially but soon shifted gears. Ayub’s pull shots and flicks off Australian quicks lit up the Adelaide Oval. His 52-ball fifty included boundary-filled strokes, with one powerful shot over the stands against Mitchell Starc.Abdullah Shafique provided stability at the other end, sealing the chase with a calm approach, eventually finishing on 64* as Pakistan sailed to victory. Captain Babar Azam sealed the deal with a six off Adam Zampa, capping off the chase in style.

Australia Struggles to Build Momentum

  • Top Order Fails to Deliver:
Australia’s batting lineup struggled on a pitch that offered some movement but wasn’t unplayable. Steven Smith’s 35 was the only notable score. The new opening pair, Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk, couldn’t find footing, falling to Shaheen Afridi’s sharp deliveries within the first seven overs.
  • Rauf and Rizwan’s Record Partnership:
With four catches off Rauf’s bowling, Mohammad Rizwan tied the ODI record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a single game. His sharp reflexes behind the stumps contributed significantly, while Rauf continued his aggressive spell, making quick work of Australia’s middle order.

Looking Ahead to the Decider in Perth

The series now heads to Perth for the deciding game on Sunday. Australia’s squad will be missing their Test players, leaving Josh Inglis to captain for the first time. Pakistan’s impressive display in Adelaide sets the stage for a thrilling showdown, with the potential to claim their first ODI series win in Australia in years.
