Rohit Sharma Makes a Key Batting Change for Adelaide Test
Rohit Sharma, who has been India’s regular opener since 2019, will bat in the middle order during the upcoming day-night Test against Australia in Adelaide. This change comes as a temporary measure, with Rohit acknowledging the great partnership between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order.
In their previous Test match in Perth, Rahul and Jaiswal formed a solid opening stand, adding 201 runs in the second innings. Rohit, while watching from home, was impressed by their performances, particularly Rahul’s excellent batting. As a result, the captain has decided not to disturb the successful opening pair.
“I felt there’s no need to change that now. KL has earned his spot with his recent performances,” Rohit said. “In the future, things may change, but for now, this combination has been working well for us.”
Rahul and Jaiswal Shine in Perth
Rahul may not have scored a century, but he played a vital role in India’s victory in Perth. Jaiswal, on the other hand, bounced back from a duck in the first innings to score a century. His confidence was evident when he took a swipe at Mitchell Starc’s pace and joked about Nathan Lyon’s age.
India declared at 487/6 and won by 295 runs, a performance Rohit praised. “Scoring 500 runs in a place like Perth is a big achievement. There was no need to make changes after such a brilliant performance,” he added.

Rohit emphasized that the decision to promote Rahul to open, despite his captaincy, was made for the benefit of the team. He shared that it was a simple decision in terms of team strategy, though personally, it wasn’t easy.
“It made sense for the team. We all want success, and this move helps us achieve that,” Rohit said.
India’s team selection also meant leaving out experienced players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it was necessary for the team’s success at that time.

Rohit also spoke about the role of India’s experienced spinners, Ashwin and Jadeja, who are expected to play a key part in the remainder of the series. “Their experience and skill will be crucial for us moving forward,” said Rohit. “Washington gives us the balance and depth we need. I just hope he stays injury-free, as he has a lot of potential,” Rohit added.

Rohit also praised the young players in his team, including Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, for their fearless approach to cricket. He explained how today’s players are more focused on winning matches rather than individual performances.
“These youngsters don’t worry about personal milestones like hundreds or double-hundreds. They think about how to win the match. This mentality has helped them succeed overseas,” Rohit said.
He added that their mindset is natural, and they always think about the team’s success first, whether with the bat, ball, or in the field.
