India put on a fantastic performance, beating Sri Lanka by 82 runs and knocking them out of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. India’s win keeps their hopes alive for reaching the semi-finals.
India’s Strong Start with the Bat
India’s top order set the tone early, scoring the highest total of the tournament so far in Dubai. Smriti Mandhana played a superb knock, hitting 50 from 38 balls. She and Shafali Verma (43) put on a partnership of 98 runs for the first wicket.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then took charge, smashing 52 from just 27 balls, ending India’s innings at a massive 172/3.
Sri Lanka’s Struggles with the Bat
Sri Lanka’s response got off to a rocky start as Radha Yadav took a stunning catch in the second ball to dismiss Vishmi Gunaratne. India’s bowlers dominated the game, with Renuka Singh and Arundhati Reddy leading the attack.
Sri Lanka’s key players, Chamari Athapaththu (1) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (3), fell early, putting India in a commanding position. Although Anushka Sanjeewani (20), Kavisha Dilhari (21), and Ama Kanchana (19) tried to fight back, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 90, well short of the target.
India’s big win not only knocks Sri Lanka out of the tournament but also boosts India’s chances of making it to the semi-finals. With this momentum, India will be looking to continue their strong run in the T20 World Cup.
