India has taken a strong lead in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, thanks to stellar performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Their unbroken opening partnership left Australia struggling as India built a lead of over 200 runs by the end of Day 2.

India’s Dominance on Day 2

India finished the day at 172 for 0, with Jaiswal unbeaten on 90 and Rahul on 62. After a chaotic Day 1 that saw 17 wickets fall, Day 2 was all about patience and discipline. Both Indian openers batted cautiously, making full use of improved batting conditions to frustrate the Australian bowlers.

Jaiswal, playing in only his second Test in Australia, looked calm and composed. He mixed solid defense with occasional aggression, showcasing his growth as a reliable opener. Rahul, on the other hand, played the anchor role perfectly, ensuring that India stayed in control.

Australia’s Struggles

Australia’s bowlers, who had dominated on the opening day, seemed to lose their edge. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood couldn’t replicate their Day 1 heroics, while Pat Cummins struggled to make an impact in his first red-ball match since March.

Fielding errors added to Australia’s woes. Jaiswal was dropped on 51 by Usman Khawaja, and a missed run-out opportunity gave India’s openers a lifeline.

Jasprit Bumrah Shines With Five-Wicket Haul

Earlier in the day, India’s bowlers wrapped up Australia’s first innings for just 104, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge. The stand-in captain claimed a brilliant five-wicket haul, his 11th in Test cricket. Debutant Harshit Rana also impressed, taking three wickets, including a sharp bouncer that dismissed Nathan Lyon.

Australia’s last-wicket stand between Mitchell Starc (26) and Josh Hazlewood delayed India’s progress slightly, but the damage was already done.

Jaiswal and Rahul’s Partnership Sets India Apart

India’s opening duo showcased a perfect mix of caution and aggression. While Rahul played steady, textbook shots, Jaiswal unleashed his natural flair, hitting a couple of stunning boundaries and even lofting Lyon for a six late in the day.

Their partnership of 172 runs is now higher than both teams’ first innings totals, underlining India’s dominance in this match.

What’s Next?

With a lead of 218 runs and all wickets in hand, India is in a commanding position to dictate terms in this match. Australia will need a remarkable turnaround to get back into the game.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting Test match!
