When and Where is the IPL 2025 Auction?
The IPL 2025 auction will be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This is only the second time an IPL auction will be conducted outside India—the last one was in Dubai in 2024. Note that this auction coincides with the third and fourth days of the Australia vs India Test in Perth.
Why is it Called a ‘Mega Auction’?
Every three years, the IPL holds a mega auction, giving franchises a chance to reset their teams. In this auction, teams can retain only up to six players; the rest of the squad must be rebuilt. Compared to regular “mini auctions” where teams can keep more players, a mega auction allows for extensive squad changes, usually requiring two days due to the higher number of players up for bidding.
How Many Players Will be in the Auction?
So far, around 1574 players have registered for the IPL 2025 auction. However, this list will be trimmed down before the auction. The final list will feature some of the top Indian and international players.
