Pat Cummins Hopes for a More Proactive Marnus Labuschagne in Adelaide

Australia’s Skipper Talks Strategy Ahead of the Pink-Ball Test

Pat Cummins is hoping for a more proactive approach from Marnus Labuschagne as he prepares for the upcoming pink-ball Test in Adelaide. The Australian No. 3 batter has faced some tough criticism recently, but Cummins is confident that Labuschagne will turn things around.

Labuschagne’s Recent Form and Adelaide Record

Marnus Labuschagne’s recent performances have sparked some concern. In Perth, he scored just 2 runs from 52 balls in the first innings, followed by a dismissal for just 3 runs in the second innings. Despite this, Labuschagne’s performance was impacted by a tricky delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, and many believe he was unlucky with that dismissal.

However, Labuschagne has struggled with form recently, with 90 of his 123 runs in the last 10 Tests coming from a single innings in Christchurch. In Adelaide, though, Labuschagne has been showing more urgency in his batting, especially in the nets. He has an impressive record at the Adelaide Oval, with an average of 71.75 and three centuries, making him a key player to watch in this upcoming Test.

Pat Cummins on Labuschagne’s Training

Cummins praised Labuschagne’s work ethic, mentioning how the batter has been “hitting millions of balls” in preparation. “He’s always working on things and trying to plan how he’s going to score his hundred this Test,” said Cummins. The challenge, he added, is transferring that positive mindset into the match itself.

Australia’s Preparations for the Pink-Ball Test

Cummins admitted that Australia did not perform their best in Perth but is hopeful that the batters will have learned from their experience facing India’s challenging bowlers, especially Bumrah. He believes the team is now better prepared and understands how to face the Indian attack more effectively.

Mitchell Marsh’s Role in the Test

Despite concerns over Mitchell Marsh’s back stiffness, Cummins confirmed that Marsh will be a part of the XI, but his bowling may be limited. The team has opted to preserve Marsh’s energy, as he hasn’t been bowling much leading up to the Test.

“We’ll likely turn to the fast bowlers a bit more,” said Cummins. He mentioned that if needed, Marsh would bowl, but the primary focus will be on the main fast bowlers.

Scott Boland’s Return to the Test Team

With Josh Hazlewood injured, Scott Boland is set to return to the Test side, and Cummins is excited to have him back. Boland is known for his consistency and ability to bowl long spells, which will be crucial in this Test. Cummins believes Boland is ready to step up after a long absence from the team.

Hazlewood’s Potential Return

Hazlewood, who had been sidelined due to a side issue, is showing signs of recovery and could return for the third Test in Brisbane. Cummins explained that Hazlewood had continued to bowl in Perth despite discomfort but had since been given rest to avoid further injury. “It seems a little bit different this time, and he’s feeling really confident,” Cummins said.

Final Thoughts

As Australia prepares for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, all eyes will be on Marnus Labuschagne to see if he can return to form. With key players like Marsh, Boland, and Hazlewood making their mark, Australia is focused on improving their performance and securing a win.
