Sajid, Noman, and Abrar: Pakistan’s Spin Kings

The third day of the Test turned into a nightmare for the West Indies as Pakistan’s spinners shared all 20 wickets across both innings. Sajid Khan led the charge with figures of 5 for 50 in the second innings, following a 4-wicket haul in the first.

Noman Ali and Abrar Ahmed complemented Sajid’s efforts perfectly. Noman’s controlled left-arm spin earned him 5 wickets in the first innings, while Abrar’s leg spin caused havoc in the second innings, claiming 4 for 27.

“We wanted to attack with the ball and defend with the field,” Sajid revealed after the match, underscoring Pakistan’s aggressive strategy.

West Indies’ Collapse: A Tale of Struggles

West Indies’ batters had no answers to the relentless spin attack. Despite a valiant 55-run effort from Alick Athanaze, the visitors were bowled out for 137 and 123 in their two innings.

In the second innings, Athanaze showed resilience, working with Tevin Imlach and Kevin Sinclair to keep Pakistan at bay. However, Abrar Ahmed’s deceptive leg spin broke the partnerships and dismantled their hopes.

Key Moments:

  • Athanaze’s half-century, the only such score for the West Indies, briefly kept their chances alive.
  • Abrar’s brilliant delivery to dismiss Imlach turned the tide in Pakistan’s favor.

Jomel Warrican’s Heroics in Vain

Jomel Warrican’s outstanding 7 for 32 in Pakistan’s second innings stood out as one of the best performances by a visiting bowler in Pakistan. His efforts, including a crucial five-wicket haul, showcased his ability to exploit the spin-friendly conditions.

“It was a challenging pitch, but I focused on varying my pace and using the conditions to my advantage,” Warrican stated.

Despite his heroics, Pakistan’s lead from the first innings and their spinners’ brilliance proved too much for West Indies.

The Turning Point: Abrar Ahmed’s Game-Changing Impact

Abrar Ahmed’s introduction after lunch on the third day marked the beginning of the end for the West Indies. His ability to extract turn and create variable bounce resulted in two quick wickets, including a spectacular diving catch at slip.

“The subcontinental conditions suited my bowling style, and I focused on keeping it simple,” Abrar said about his performance.

Pakistan’s Spin Depth: A Major Advantage

This match highlighted Pakistan’s wealth of spin options, which could be a decisive factor in the ongoing series. With the ability to rotate their spinners and maintain pressure, Pakistan’s bowling unit proved too strong for the visitors.
