West Indies Women Gearing Up for Historic Bangladesh Series

The West Indies Women’s cricket team is set to face Bangladesh in a historic bilateral series, starting January 19, 2025. The series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, will take place at Warner Park in St. Kitts. This is the first bilateral series between these two teams and marks Bangladesh’s inaugural tour of the Caribbean for a series.

Squad Highlights

The West Indies squad features some exciting changes and inclusions:

  • Cherry-Ann Fraser: The fast-bowling all-rounder makes her return to the squad after her last ODI appearance in October 2023 against Australia.
  • Jannillea Glasgow: The uncapped pacer, who has previously played four T20Is, is poised to make her ODI debut.

Key Absentees

  • Shamilia Connell: The fast bowler misses out on this series.
  • Rashada Williams: The middle-order batter is also absent from the squad.
  • Stafanie Taylor: The veteran all-rounder continues to recover from a knee injury and remains unavailable.

    • Even with a 3-0 sweep, they cannot achieve direct qualification for the ODI World Cup later this year in India.
  2. Bangladesh’s Opportunity
    • Bangladesh, with 19 points, can overtake New Zealand (21 points) for a top-six finish and secure direct qualification.

Coach’s Perspective

West Indies head coach Shane Deitz views this series as a key part of the team’s preparation:

“Bangladesh’s visit comes at an ideal time in our preparation cycle. They’re a skilled unit, and this series allows us to examine our squad depth while continuing to play our aggressive, flamboyant brand of West Indian cricket.”
